Decision support, not an appraisal.

Selling is one of six options. You can also keep, protect, insure, hand down to family or donate. This list is for when selling is the choice, and fit comes before any referral pay. We do not buy collections or make offers. No company on this page paid to be listed, and no referral pay is active. If a paid referral is ever added, it will be disclosed before any information is shared. Listing is not a recommendation. Confirm every fee in writing with the company before you ship anything.

Our count

3 of 15 auction houses publish a seller fee

Seller fee stated: GreatCollections; Goldin; Fanatics Collect (formerly PWCC). Buyer's premium stated (4): Stack's Bowers Galleries; Goldin; Fanatics Collect (formerly PWCC); Hake's Auctions. Payout timing stated (4): Stack's Bowers Galleries; Goldin; Fanatics Collect (formerly PWCC); Morphy Auctions. Could not be checked (1): Heritage Auctions.

In plain terms: at most houses on this list, the seller's commission is set in a private consignment agreement. A published buyer's premium does not tell you what you, the seller, will pay.

What to ask a house that does not publish its seller fee

  1. What commission applies to this consignment, as a percentage of hammer price?
  2. Are photography, insurance, grading, listing or return fees charged on top?
  3. What happens to unsold lots, and who pays to ship them back?
  4. How many days after the sale is the consignor paid?
Method

Set: every entry typed "Auction house" in our dataset (15 houses). For each, we opened the house's own consign, terms or FAQ page on October 15, 2026 and counted a fee as published only when that page stated a number. Fees quoted only on third-party sites, in old press releases or in search snippets were not counted. Linked figures go to the exact page; the sentence behind each is stored in the dataset.
